Silver Rush

My school is absolutely amazing.

Every year, throughout the whole month of December, we have a charity drive. This year the Student Body Officers decided on the charity the Christmas Box House - a temporary shelter for abandoned, abused, and neglected children until they can be put into a foster home. It was a great cause and everyone was so excited (especially the sophomores... because sophomores are ridiculous)!! Everyday there was the opportunity to participate in "Odd Jobs". Odd-jobbing is where a group of students are assigned to a neighborhood and go door-to-door asking if there were any "odd jobs" to do around the house for a donation, or if they would just like to donate. More often than not the person would just donate, but rare occasions that we were asked to do odd jobs make the best stories!

It was my first day doing odd jobs. A lady invited us inside and put the girls to work decorating the house for a bridal shower that was happening in an hour, and sent the boys off to move beds and van seats. We strung streamers, decorated the banister, and got offered cookies ("is this frosting skin colored?? *shudder*). The whole time working, I always had "how much are they going to give us?" in the back of my mind.

But by the end of the month I realized it's not the money that really counts.

At school, we had lunch room activities to raise money. $2 to put your friend in jail, $20 for a sweatshirt, $4 for a bracelet... etc. I made sure I always had extra cash. Literally every extra hour - every extra dollar - I had went to Silver Rush.
I was looking forward to finding out the Silver Rush total more than Christmas! (wait a minute, it's Christmas Eve???)
Yesterday (because we were still in school......) was the assembly! Spirits ran high, and my heart was pounding when the recap video played showing all the work that had gone into this month.
Last year Silver Rush earned $82,000 which was the highest number thus far. I kept praying "over $80,000.. over $80,000...".
The banner dropped revealing the number.

$107,267.12
(extra donations were given after the banner was created)
INCREDIBLE.

Everyone was screaming, jumping, crying, laughing, hugging each other. We sang the fight song, we kept repeating the number that proved how truly amazing our community and our school is. It was the best feeling in the world. :)

Here's the news article about it :)

Definitely proud to be a Silverwolf.

Merry Christmas. xx
